Top 7 Ways to Make Your Home Feel More Like a Vacation

If you’re anything like most individuals, you love escaping from reality every once in a while by going on vacation. But sometimes, it’s hard to get into the vacation mindset when you’re stuck at home. So here are five ways to make your home feel more like a vacation and escape from reality for a little while.

Put On Some Music From Your Favorite Tropical Destination

When you want your home to feel more like a vacation, you should put on some music from your favorite tropical destination. Then, whether you play the music quietly in the background or move around and dance to it, you can let yourself be reminded of that relaxing time you had at that luxurious beach. It may not seem like much, but changing up the usual humdrum of music will certainly make you feel different and bring you back to those fun memories.

Install a Hammock in Your Backyard

Hanging up a hammock in your backyard will be among the ways you can make your home feel more like a vacation. After you string it between two trees, you’ll have a nice place to sit and recline after a hard day of work at home or on your commute. If you spend time outside reading often during the summer, you may find that you enjoy spending your evenings out there as well. And if you do decide to turn your backyard into an oasis this year, then you might want to consider adding some landscaping around your yard for added relaxation.

Installing Beautiful Outdoor Furniture for Relaxation

There are several great ways to make a house a home, but to feel like you’re out on vacation all the time, you might want to invest in creating an outdoor area for lounging. This can be done through purchasing or building your furniture, and it will probably be one of the best investments you have ever made.

For example, by designing your own bespoke furniture, you can give your outdoor area an individual touch that makes it feel like you’re far away. It’s also one of the ways to make your home feel more like a vacation, especially if you design it in a way inspired by the local architecture. When done correctly, your outside space can be almost as lovely as being out on holiday itself.

Add an Outdoor Rug to Create More Space for Relaxing Outside

Many homeowners often invest in buying furniture that they leave out all year round. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but you can make your home feel more like you are on vacation if you incorporate the use of outdoor rugs throughout your backyard. Outdoor rugs can be used indoors, too, if you have hardwood or tiled floors. However, you might want to keep them out of high-traffic areas as they will likely show wear and tear over time. Instead, place the outdoor rugs on cement patios, pool decks, and terraces where you spend most of your time during the summer months. Doing so creates more space for lounging around with friends and family, whether you are hosting an outdoor barbecue, you have a group of friends visiting you in the summertime, you have family gatherings for holidays, or you want to read outside. Outdoor rugs also help give your outdoor space more color and texture.

Add Plants to Your Windowsill or Porch

Getting some plants you love and putting them on your windowsill or porch can be an easy way to bring the outside inside. However, if you’re someone who struggles with allergies, you may need to spray down potted plants before bringing them in so you don’t bring in allergens that you were hoping to escape when you go on vacation.

Change What’s on the Walls

You could also change what you have on the walls of your house to feel more like a vacation. If you’re having trouble deciding, you can get art from an art gallery, or you could get bright-colored posters that remind you of beaches and beautiful landscapes. The colors will make you happy when you see them every morning and night, which will make you feel more comfortable in general.

Use Cleaning Supplies With a Different Smell

You can make your home feel more like a vacation by using cleaning supplies with a different smell you would typically use at home. You can use a regular cleanser you have in the house, or you could go out and buy something that smells tropical, like coconut or vanilla extract, for example. Using these scents will lift your mood no matter what you’re cleaning up because you’re back there thinking about how much you love being on vacation instead of being stuck at home all day if you have a job that doesn’t let you take time off easily.

Conclusion

Vacation time is a welcome break from the daily grind. The thought of going on vacation can make you feel like a kid in a candy store, but what about when it’s over? When you’re back home, and all your travels are behind you, how do you get that feeling again? Check the above ways to bring some travel-worthy vibes into your own home so that after all those miles have been logged, there will be no need for an escape plan because everything feels exciting again!
