I think a lot of us will agree that cleaning is one of the least liked things about living in your home. The list needs never ending and there never seems to be enough time in the week to get everything done. If you are struggling to figure out how to fit everything in you might want to think about setting up a cleaning schedule.
Write a list
Before you think about making a cleaning list you really need to know all of the jobs that you want to get done in a week. You could split this up by room or just write down a big list of all of the smaller jobs that need doing regularly. Having everything written down will help you to figure out what the most important cleaning jobs are and what might not need to be done quite as often.
Weekly, monthly or both
When it comes to putting your cleaning list together you are going to need to decide how often you think certain jobs need doing. You could come up with a weekly list for things that need doing quite regularly as well as a monthly cleaning list for some of the bigger jobs that only really need doing now and again. Of course, you could always come up with a ‘one day’ list of things you’d just like to get around to if you have time.
Sharing the work
Sometimes it can feel like one person in the house does more cleaning than the other and this can cause arguments. One way of stopping this from happening is to share out the jobs on the cleaning schedule. This could mean one person doing the same jobs each week or you could split everything up equally and change it up each week. This is something to figure out to make sure it works for everyone in your family.
Be realistic
There’s no point in coming up with a cleaning schedule that you just can’t do. It’s so important to be realistic about what tasks you will be able to get done each week and not stretch yourself too thinly. Putting together an unrealistic list will only end up with you being frustrated about not being able to get everything done.
Prepare to change
Cleaning schedules can really be a case of trial and error. After you have put together your first one you might want to see how it works for a couple of weeks. If there is something that doesn’t quite work then this is the time to make any tweaks so that you end up with a cleaning schedule that does actually work for you.
