No matter what size your family is, how many children you have or even how big your home is, organisation can often be a bit of an issue. With us all having busy lives some of the little (and the big) things can get missed and our homes can end up messy and disorganised. Here are 5 ways to keep your family home organised and hopefully they will help!
Lists!
For me, you can’t go wrong with a good list! There are some jobs that I always forget to do, especially if they are not written down. You could come up with list that starts at the beginning of each month or week that stays the same all of the time. The list could include anything you like really but some things I would add are the days the bins need taking out, reordering certain things on Amazon or paying that monthly bill that’s not set up on a direct debit. Having the things written down and put somewhere you’ll always see them like the kitchen fridge will help you to become a lot more organised.
Cleaning rota
After a long day at work or a crazy day at home with the kids it can be hard to have enough energy to get the cleaning done. It can often seem like a really huge task or that loads needs doing all at once.
By creating a cleaning rota you can share out the chores between people in the family and have set days for doing things. Breaking things down into smaller, more manageable tasks will make everything look more manageable and quicker to get done. Doing 1 thing a day for 10-15 minutes maximum is so much better than a deer clean of a room because you’ve left it so long.
End of day pick up
If you have children then toys seem to get everywhere, no matter what you do. In the living room, in the kitchen, even up the stairs… there always seems to be a toy somewhere. This can make your home seem messy and unorganised and while there’s not much point putting everything away through the day it’s a good idea to do one big pick up at the end of the day. You will be able to sit down in the evening without thinking that this or that needs putting away because you will have already done it.
Good storage
Good storage can make all the difference to your home and you will soon see a difference if you are able to upgrade or invest in something new. Maybe you have an alcove you don’t use and is just left empty. This could be turned into build in cupboards with shelving above to keep things out of the way. If you have IKEA Kallax systems around your home maybe you could upgrade and add in shelves or cupboard doors. This is a great way to keep clutter hidden, therefore making your home seem a lot more organised even if it isn’t.
Have a clear out
Clutter can quickly take over any room and it’s easy to just keep more than you really need. Do an hour every now and again and have a sort out in a room. Can you sell or donate some old clothes that you no longer wear or that don’t fit? Have your children grown out of some of their toys? How about the books you have already read? By getting rid of the things you don’t use you’ll quickly feel like your home is a lot more organised.
