London is such a great place to visit, especially as a family, but it can become costly very quickly. However, there are loads of great things to do in London with kids if you know where to look. Here are 7 fantastic things that you could do on your next visit.
Science Museum
The Science Museum is such a great place to visit as a family and there’s something for children of all ages. From going into space to looking at medical instruments and learning about operations, children can not only learn a lot but they can also have loads of fun. Younger children can play in ‘The Garden’ or the ‘Pattern Pod’ but these must be booked in advance at the moment. You can spend as long as you like at the Science Museum but be sure to figure out what you want to see first.
Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum is just a minute or two away from the Science Museum and is another great option for families. This is another place where you can spend an hour or four, depending on what you want to see and do there. Think bones, dinosaurs, all kinds of cool creatures and there’s bound to be something to peak your child’s interest.
National Maritime Museum
The National Maritime Museum can be found in Greenwich so a bit of a way from Central London. However, Greenwich is a wonderful place to go with children. The National Maritime Museum is free to enter and is filled with cool boats, cannons and other ship related galleries. There are interactive children’s sections too and a huge map on one of the floors so you can really look at the world with the children.
Diana Memorial Playground
Visiting the Diana Memorial Playground and Kensington Gardens is a great way to spend some time especially if the weather is nice. Sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in all of the museums and building in London but finding somewhere for the children to blow off some steam is a good idea. The Diana Memorial Playground is a great play park and filled with super fun things to do such as mazes and huge sandpits. There’s also somewhere to get a drink and toilets there as well.
Explore Covent Garden
There’s so much to Covent Garden and children are bound to enjoy it there. Take a look around the market or the shops or you might be lucky enough to catch a street performer or two. Although it’s free to look around there are some great places to eat as well as the London Transport Museum which you do have to pay to get in to.
City Farms
Did you know that there are farms in London? Not a lot of people do but they’re great places to take the children. Hackney City Farm for example is free to visit and you can have a look around and see the animals. They don’t take up a lot of time so don’t plan a whole day around it but it’s a fun way to spend an hour or two. Spitalfields City Farm is another good one to visit and there’s a park nearby.
London’s parks
It’s always a good idea to get some fresh air and spend some time outside while you’re in London. The good thing is that London has loads of parks. Hyde Park, Green Park, Greenwich Park are just a few but they’re lovely to walk around and some of them have amazing play parks.
