Is there anything better than enjoying a barbecue with friends during the summer months? Relaxing in the garden with a cocktail while the sun shines down and music plays in the background; what could be better?
This is only going to be achievable if your garden space allows it, of course. If your garden is currently littered with weeds, and a dull and dreary place to be in, you are not going to want to entertain anyone. This is why you need to get your garden summer-ready before it is too late and you need to wait until next year. Here are some great tips to follow…
Tidy up – There really is only one place to begin when it comes to getting your garden ready for the summer period, and this is by tidying up. You can get the items you need for this from Green Gardener. This may not be the most exciting job in the world. However, it is definitely the first thing that you should do in order to kick things off when getting your garden ready for the summer.
You need to start by getting rid of any weeds that have been overstaying their welcome in your flower beds. You should remove dead plants that have seen better days. Cut off any sections that are dead, and feed with plant food that is made for the plant in question, and if there has been no rain lately, make sure you water the area. As well as addressing what you have in your flower beds, you also need to give the borders some attention as well. A strimmer and edging tool are all that is required for this.
Plant night-scented flowers – If your events tend to go on until the evening, it is a good idea to plant some night-scented flowers. This includes the likes of Jasmine, Honeysuckle, and Phlox.
In terms of birds, they have three basic requirements, which are shelter, water, and food. If you want to bring more birds into your garden space, building a wildlife pond is a good idea. This could be something basic like a shallow, simple pool, or it could be something more elaborate, such as a water feature with a number of tiers.
Make sure your grass is as green as it should be – When it comes to the overall appearance of your garden, your lawn is going to play a crucial role. If yours is looking a bit patchy, it can spoil all of the landscape. To start with, you can think about sowing grass seed on your lawn to help fill any patches and to help it look lush and green again.
So, what can you do about this? Well, firstly, you will need to tackle any moss and weeds that may have taken over. Poor growing conditions can lead to moss. Chemical weed and moss killers will solve the problem here. To restore the health of your grass, make sure you add some plant food to the mix.
If the problem persists, there could be a number of reasons why this is the case. Usually, it is down to underlying conditions. However, it could be down to inadequate site preparation if the lawn has only recently been laid. Other problems for established lawns include poor drainage, insufficient aeration, and acidic soil conditions. Call in the experts if you’re unsure!
If you follow the tips that have been provided above, you can make sure your garden is ready for the summer months. Enjoy a relaxing time with friends and family in your inviting and exciting garden space.
