Travel Tips: How To Pack More Into Your Short Getaways

Posted on November 16, 2023November 17, 2023 by Lyndsey OHalloran

Weekend breaks and other short getaways have become an increasingly common choice of travel in recent times. Whether attributed to a lack of time or money, this trend means you must prioritise the idea of squeezing more into your trips. After all, there is no time to waste.

Here are some of the easiest ways to ensure that you can create magical memories, even during a brief stay.

Pick the destination and journey wisely

If you are only planning to spend a long weekend in a destination, you probably don’t want to choose Australia. Thankfully, the UK and mainland Europe are blessed with many great destinations for short stays. However, it’s also important to consider the flight times as you don’t want to lose a whole Saturday due to flying in the middle of the afternoon. Similarly, you should check that the airport you’re landing in isn’t actually two hours away from the intended destination.

Aside from the direct benefits of planning the travel aspects, it stops you from worrying about the return trip.

Plan a rough itinerary

When you have limited time in a location, you don’t want to spend too long considering your options. Therefore, a little planning prior to your departure is vital. You’ve probably selected a location because there is at least one attraction that excites you. However, researching things to do in Skibbereen when visiting County Cork in Ireland, for example, is vital. Aside from ensuring that you are ready to enjoy the best activities during your time away, it will help build your excitement levels.

Leaving some room for spontaneity is advised. Still, ensuring that you won’t come home regretting missed opportunities is vital.

Consider your travel party

The people you travel with will have a telling impact on your experience. Therefore, you must choose wisely and avoid anyone who may compromise the fun with their difficult personality. You should also consider what events, locations, and activities are suitable for your group. This is especially true when travelling with young kids or older relatives. Building a family-friendly itinerary for Greenwich, for example, will make your trip far better. If the kids don’t enjoy the trip, nobody will.

As well as the activities you’ll enjoy, you should consider whether the travel party impacts which type of accommodation would be best.

Be organised

When taking the two-week all-inclusive break, time is on your side. You’ll probably spend the first 24 hours settling in and familiarising yourself with the palace. When it’s a quick visit, though, you don’t want to waste time exchanging money or arranging your hire care. You can book your rental vehicle, change up money, and install translator apps in advance. Similarly, you can pre-book tickets for attractions. If visiting somewhere like a theme park, you may also want to think about fast passes.

When you spend less time worrying about those issues while you’re away, there’s more time to enjoy the experience.
