Tips To Look After Your Garden During The Winter

The winter time is when you often spend less time in the garden – unless you’ve got the luxury of a firepit and many layers to keep warm! Looking after your garden though is still important and something you want to stay on top of.

With that being said, if you want to make sure you’ve got a beautiful garden come spring or summer, then it’s important you’re investing the time into it during the cooler months. Here are some helpful tips to look after your garden during the winter.

Protect your plants

Protecting your plants is something to do ahead of time, especially if you’ve got some plants that are more susceptible to weather damage or damage from pests. There are plenty of useful covers that you can buy in order to shelter your plants so that they don’t come to any harm as a result.

Be wary of covers that might stifle some plants and flowers, doing more damage than good. It’s worth doing a bit of research on which plants need what when it comes to protective coverings of all kinds.

Invest in pool covers for your pool

The pool area – if you’re lucky to have one – is something to maintain so that it doesn’t fall into disarray. With that in mind, consider investing in pool covers so that you don’t need to do much when it comes to opening it up during the warmer months.

Of course, any pool will need some cleaning and maintenance once the pool cover has been removed, but a pool cover will make the process a lot less of a hassle.

Keep everything clean and tidy

Be sure to keep everything clean and tidy when it comes to your garden. That means keeping the hedges and bushes nice and trimmed, as well as ensuring the garden, in general, is kept in good condition. If you’ve got furniture strewn across the garden or broken toys that are cluttering the space, make sure to remove these.

By leaving stuff lying across your lawn, you’re more than likely to attract unwanted wildlife. At the same time, it might be the prettiest of sights that you’d want to see.

Plant new flowers

To get ahead of that beautiful garden you’re hoping to have by the next season, you’ll want to go and plant any new flowers. It’s good to do your research on what buds will thrive during these conditions and what might not work.

Be sure to know when to plan them ahead of time and hopefully, you’ll see them sprout and grow in time for you to enjoy them in the warmer months.

Store away garden furniture

Finally, garden furniture is something that you want to check on when it comes to keeping it in good condition all year round. Take a look at the type of furniture you have and whether it’s durable during all times of the year. Otherwise, it might be worth storing it away in the meantime.

These tips should ensure your garden is well looked after during the winter.
