Welcoming a dog into your family home can be such an exciting and inspiring experience, as a pup can provide you with an endless stream of comfort and entertainment that you will treasure for years to come.

Fortunately it doesn’t have to be difficult to ensure your new dog can lead the happiest, healthiest life under your roof, as there are a few key areas in which you can focus your efforts to make them feel comfortable and content as can be. This guide contains some great recommendations, so what are you waiting for?

Feed Them A Good Diet

Dinner time is an important time of the day for your furry friend, and it’s vital that you can make a conscious effort to ensure they can eat a healthy, balanced diet. A healthy, good quality diet will give them a better chance of leading a long and comfortable life, as avoiding artificial foods can reduce the risk of illnesses like cancer occurring.

There are so many fresh pet food options available, even those which are kept inside the fridge. If you want to take it one step further, you may wish to consider making your own dog food from scratch at home. Providing your dog with a healthy dinner each and every day will give them the energy they need to thrive, as well as all the vitamins and minerals that their mind and body needs to function at optimum levels.

Keep Them Fit & Active

Ensuring your dog can get regular exercise is key to maintaining good health and wellbeing, as they need a chance to stretch their legs and move their muscles while they get stimulated by the different sights, sounds and smells of the great outdoors. It’s a good idea to try and take them on a walk at least once every single day, more frequently if you can, as this will help them to stay fit and active. Walk for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the breed and age of your dog.

Going for a walk will also give them the opportunity to meet with other dogs, allowing them to stay social and improve their interaction skills at the same time. Make your walks interesting by taking them on a route that includes a little nature such as a field or a forest, as they will get the chance to be a real animal and use their senses as they were destined to in the ‘wild’. You may also wish to take a few play items with you on your walk, such as a tennis ball or rope, as you can play games like fetch to make sure they’re really moving rather than simply putting one paw in front of the other.

Treasure Their Memory

Unfortunately, dogs tend to have a much shorter lifespan than humans, and as a result they may pass before you do. Treasuring their memory is vital, so be sure to utilize something like respectable pet cremation by tendering pet cremations that allows you to honor their memory in the best way possible.
