If you want to reduce your household costs, it will help if you make your home more energy efficient. Energy bills are soaring and becoming the most expensive household bill, behind rent and mortgage payments.

Therefore, if you wish to find smart ways to save money and reduce your energy usage, here’s more.

Add solar panels to your home

Although solar panels are an investment, they are one worth making if you wish to reduce energy costs and usage.

At All Seasons Energy, you can find professional and efficient solar panels, which will help to reduce your home’s energy usage and save on energy costs.

Replace your bulbs

Another smart way to conserve energy and lower your bill is to replace your light bulbs. If you are not using energy-efficient and energy-saving lightbulbs, they might be using more electricity than you think.

Any bulbs that require less energy will cost less to use.

Turn things off when you do not use or need them

Keeping things plugged in and switched on when they are not in use is bound to hike up your energy usage and cost.

Therefore, the best thing you can do is turn things off when you no longer need to use them or want them. Having the TV or lights on in the background when they are not needed is a silly idea if you want to cut your expenses.

Install a new thermostat

Old and outdated thermostats will guarantee to cost you more money when it comes to using the heating. Installing a new thermostat can instantly save you money.

A thermostat that is programmable means you can set an on and off time. Instead of leaving the heating on all day so you can arrive home to warmth, you can set it to switch on and 4 pm, in time for your arrival at 5 pm.

Energy-efficient appliances

There are many energy-efficient appliances that are great at using less energy and costing less to run.

From ovens to TVs, there are numerous electricals that require less energy yet still work as efficiently and effectively. Such investments are worthwhile if you want to reduce your energy usage and bill in the long run.

New windows

Old windows might not be as energy-efficient as you need them to be. New windows, that are double-glazed, will provide more heat regulation, ensuring to keep your home a good temperature during the winter and summer.

Instead of needing your AC or heating, the new windows will work their magic to keep your home at a comfortable temperature

Update your AC unit

Updating your home’s AC unit will ensure that when it is in use, it is as efficient as possible. If your AC takes a while to cool your home down, it might be a sign that it needs replacing. When it takes a while to cool down the home, it will be using more energy as it will be working harder and you will need to leave it on longer.

Therefore, ensure to update, maintain, or replace your AC unit to ensure it requires as little energy as possible.

Get rid of the cold

If your home has draughts, it will feel a lot colder than it needs to be during the winter. A draught will cause you to whack the heating on full, which will cost you a lot of money.

If you weatherise your home and get rid of the cold, it will help you reduce your need for the heating as well as help you save money.

Cold washing your clothes

Not every item of clothing requires hot water washing. Sometimes, you can get away with cold washing your clothes. Any clothes that can have minimal dirt or odour on them can be washed using cold water. Doing a cold water wash instead of using a washing machine will save you a lot of electricity, which will help to lower your bills.

It can take more time to hand wash clothes in cold water, but it is worth it if you wish to reduce your energy usage and prices.

If you have a cold water setting on your washing machine, it will still be cheaper than running a hot wash as the washing machine will not need extra time to heat up the water.

See, it can be much easier to reduce your energy usage and bills than you think. Simply installing new home measures and adjusting your behaviour at home can be enough to lower your expenses.
