Effective Ways To Improve Your Home Lighting

Lighting can enhance your home’s appeal or make it fall short. Although your home may be beautiful during the day, it may not be so appealing at night when there is inadequate lighting. Good lighting can boost your home design, mood and make it feel safer. So, whether you want to update your home, improve its functionality, or make it more comfortable, here are four easy ways to improve your home lighting.

  1. Light up your stairs

It’s risky to go upstairs in the dark, so it’s best to consider putting some lights along your staircase. The increased light will visually spark up your home’s floors while offering visibility to finding your way around. Recessed and mounted spots are common lighting options for stairs. They are usually installed 15 and 20cm above the steps. Although staircase lights may seem flush and subtle, they provide enough low-lighting while creating breathtaking effects.

  1. Update your lighting with more-efficient ones

You may want to replace your older light bulbs with more efficient ones. This saves you money and also improves your home’s lighting. Aside from their inefficiency, many older bulbs are not a good fit for their intended usage. For instance, reflectors and A-type light bulbs waste energy in recessed fixtures since they trap light. Certain exterior bulbs tend to disperse a larger portion of their light beyond the intended area, resulting in light pollution. Fortunately, you can correct this by using more-efficient bulbs or those intended for indoor or outdoor use.

  1. Adjust natural lighting in your home

While natural lighting from windows is a major selling element in homes, there are occasions when you don’t want your home to feel overly bright. And when you are living in a sunny location, you won’t always need as much light in your space. For instance, too much natural light in your home can cause a glare on your TV screen or intensify migraine headaches. The sunbeam entering your home can also heat the space and increase your energy bills. Fortunately, you can use shutters to control how much light enters your home based on your preferences.

  1. Repaint your home

If you are trying to brighten up a dimly lit room, the colours you choose for your wall are essential since they can absorb or reflect light. It is amazing how much lighter paint colour can brighten a space. However, lighting a home that feels dark can be challenging for many people. Although it is tempting to undertake major home renovation like tearing down some walls or adding some new windows can help, employing the right lighting techniques can help you brighten the space. Adding some brighter arts, using sun colours like yellow, red, or orange, or painting your ceiling with colours of the sky can do a significant job.

Much emphasis is placed on the interior to improve home lighting. However, good home lighting should be from the outside. You might want to review your home areas, notice the dark spots, and improve them.
