In an ideal world a house would have at least an upstairs bathroom or toilet on each floor of the house. However, this isn’t reality most of the time and size can also be a big issue. If you are stuck for space then here are some ways to make the most of a small family bathroom.
Use corners
There is so much you can do with a corner in a bathroom. It could be used for a corner bath, corner shower or maybe just shelves to help with storage. An unused corner is a wasted space.
Double up
With small bathrooms you have to be quite creative and clever with your space. You might not have enough space for both a bath and a shower but you can always add in a shower over the tub. This way you get the best of both worlds.
Keep it clean
A messy or cluttered room can easily look small and cramped. A simple design and well thought out furniture and accessories can really make a big difference. Be sure to allow for enough storage for things like toiletries and towels so they’re not left to be scattered all over the room.
Clever colours
The wrong colour scheme can quickly make a bathroom look even smaller than it is. Spend some time in your room and play around with wallpaper, tiles and paint samples before committing to a choice. The wrong tiles especially can be an expensive mistake.
Use mirrors
Without a renovation there’s not much you can do about the actual size of your bathroom. However, you can add extra light and give the impression of a bigger room by using mirrors. This can also be a great way to add something to your wall without it looking too cluttered.
We might not be able to change the size of small bathrooms but it is possible to change how you use the room.
