Getting older is inevitable, no matter how much you might wish otherwise. No matter what age you are though you might have goals for different stages in our life. Here are some ideas of life goals you might have for future years.
Savings
When thinking about the your later years there might be a long list of things you want to do. This could be all different kinds of things however, they usually end up costing money. It doesn’t matter what age you’re at now there’s always time to add to your savings. Put in what you can afford and let it build up for when you need it.
Larger pension
Pensions are something that a lot of people don’t understand, myself included, and I left it quite late in life to learn more about them. Even if you have a pension already set up you might want to think about where it will leave you at retirement age. You might have time to increase your contributions or maybe setup another private pension, depending on what works best for you.
Learn a new skill
Sometimes, especially after retirement, we end up with more time than we’re used to. Maybe there is something you’ve always wanted to do, or wanted to learn. This could be the time to pick up a new hobby or learn a new skill. There are a million possibilities to choose from and you might even want to learn more than one thing.
A big holiday
When I think about getting older, whether that be in 5 years time or 15 years time, I think about taking a huge holiday. This takes a lot of planning and a lot of saving and is definitely something that needs to be thought about in advance. For me, my big goal would be a world cruise, spending a few months travelling and seeing a whole load of countries on the way.
Being close to family
Family is so important but for a lot of different reasons we might find ourselves further away from them than we might like. A goal a lot of people will share is to move closer to family at some point in their lives. Obviously things like money and jobs can be things that can stop this from happening but it’s a great goal to have.
Financial stability
Debt is something that a lot of us struggle with and it’s so easy to let it spiral out of control. If you are in a situation where you have multiple debts or creditors you might want to think about getting these cleared or to a more manageable place. Charities like Step Change can help with this or you can contact each creditor yourself and work out a plan. Being debt free would be a fantastic goal at any point in your life but absolutely something to work towards.
